-Hosted by Historic Coast Outfitters in Partnership with Log Jam Outfitters-

The HCO Missouri River Hosted Program

August 10-14, 2026

Future Date: March 8-12, 2027

This trip is built around one thing… big trout eating big meals.

Zirdle fishing in shallow water targeting large, isolated brown trout feeding on molting crayfish

Afternoon hopper fishing on grass flats—high risk, high reward eats

Healthy population of brown & rainbow trout (no cutthroat fishery)

Drift boat program designed for anglers who want shots at quality over quantity

Log Jam Outfitters

A Family Owned Operation in the Heart of the Bitterroot Valley.

Owner Lane Blackwood has hand selected some of the top guides in Montana to join his team. Providing an extremely professional and educational experience, our passion for fly fishing and being on the water is what sets us apart. We truly love our local fishery but we also love to chase big trout in other parts of the state. This is where the HCO collaboration comes into play.

In August, the Missouri river is thriving, so we have taken pride in a special program. With the Missouri River being the biggest tail water in the state, it offers excellent year round fishing to any angler, but in August something special happens.

The grasshoppers hit the water after being blown off the overgrown grassy banks and the crayfish go through their molting stages, making them very susceptible to being eaten by trout. Using a very unique but simple "nymphing" strategy produces the most beautiful hopper eats you've ever seen. This trip is one of our favorites and we hope you’ll join us.
